A quaint city that is famous for its its canals and gondola, Venice is a place that will captivate you if you have any interest in the arts. Instead of having buses and subways for transport, what is common in Venice are its water taxis, since the roads here are made up of water. From museums to masquerades, you could imagine how this place used to be the port of the world.
Despite the fact that the canals are what make Venice famous, they also make you feel disgusted. The smell from the canal waters is somewhere between dried pee and sewage and is certainly not pleasant.
Venice has its fair share of cathedrals and museums, but what really attracted me was the produce. The selection of fruits here is commendable and they are all very fresh. Most notable is the cherries that test better than the $20 per kg ones in Singapore while costing only $5 per kg. Incredible. The seafood variety is also amazing.
From Venice, you can take day trips to 2 famous cute little villages called Murano and Burano. Burano is known for its houses that are painted with vibrant houses, while you can find beautiful glass decorations in Murano.
After spending two nights in Venice (which is pretty sufficient to me), Jin Dao and I headed to Milan to take a plane home to Poland to end my 42 day trip. With a night to idle in Milan, we went around the city to see if there is anything to do. Though known for being a land of fashion, the design of the city looks pretty dead and gloomy. There are also not much to do there except for a few cathedrals and museums that every other Italian city has. Thank god that we only spent minimal time here.
