The reason why I was so excited about Croatia was because if its famous Plitvice Lakes National Park. Appearing on many XXX places you must see before you die, I was speechless when I always search for photos of the park online.

But to be honest, that is all there is from the whole park, even though a normal route through the park takes about 4-5 hours. It's just lakes and lakes and lakes. Then again what was I expecting? The name already says Plitvice Lakes.
Croatia has no trains between its cities, much unlike most other countries. Your only options are to take private buses or to drive. Driving is clearly the more convenient option and it doesn't cost much (I think less than SGD$30 a day) and private buses have weird timings so it is hard for you to really enjoy the sights. I rented from a place called Oryx.
To have Plitvice and Dubrovnik in the same itinerary for Croatia is also cumbersome. One is located in the North and the other in the South. What we did was to gather in Zagreb, rent our cars there, drive to Plitvice Lakes National Park for the visit and then spend a night in Zadar. Zadar is a nice place to actually spend a day or two, but we were restricted by the number of days.
