To be frank, by the time it was Day 3, I have actually visited the places that I have researched on. This is what happens when you travel with parents that start the day at 7am :O. So on day 3, we decided to be a little more adventurous and just drive around Switzerland.
First, we headed down to Trummelbach Falle. This is the waterfall for the Swiss Alps and apparently carries up 20,000 litres of water per second, like a mega drain of the Swiss mountains.
It's quite a sight to behold and cost like 10-12 Swiss francs per person. There is even an escalator they dug that allows you to go higher so that you don't need to climb so much.
From the best of my memory (I took 7 months to write this post), the above is the route that we took for the drive. One of the most cool parts was that we actually boarded a car train where we drove right through the Swiss Alps. Bless the Swiss and their obsession for tunnels.
The aim of this drive around the Alps was actually to reach Zermatt so that we can take the famous reflective picture of a peak called Matterhorn. Unfortunately, weather was a problem that day and prevented us from taking this exceptional shot! I took this photo from the internet to show you what our aim was. What you have to do is to head to Riffelsee from Zermatt to take this shot of Matterhorn.
One funny thing that happened was that Zermatt was actually a car-free town! You have to parked at the train station before Zermatt and then take a train right in. No wonder everyone in town gave us the weird faces when we just drove into the heart of the town and asked for directions.
Saddened by the fact that lake Riffelsee was frozen and we couldn't take a picture, we headed back to Grindelwald via the famous St. Gotthard Pass. Truth to be told, I wasn't expected the drive back to my so scenic. To me it was just a circular drive so that we do not need to drive back the same way. Somehow, we stumbled onto one of the best drives in Switzerland. For this pass, you literally drive numerous hairpins to drive over several mountains. Like literally.
The second photo was taken from the web as I didn't take a photo on the way down.
